Mobile app development for iOS and Android - DAB

Mobile app development for companies

Scroll down

We build mobile applications for iOS and Android, and tablet applications for the work that happens inside the company. We cover the whole path: requirements definition, screen design, development, testing on real devices and publication on the stores.

The first question we ask is not “which app do you want” but who will use it, and to do what, every day. Many business apps fail because they are built as a shop window when a tool was needed — or the other way round.

What kind of application you need

Apps for your customers

Published on the App Store and Google Play: catalogues, bookings, loyalty, after-sales services. It makes sense when usage repeats over time and push notifications matter. If instead your customer would open it once a year, a well-built mobile site is usually the better answer — and we say so before the quote, not after.

Operations apps for the people who work with you

Smartphone and tablet applications for field sales, warehouse staff, technicians on site, production teams: order collection, stock counts, job reports, quality checks. They work without a connection and sync when the network comes back. This is the type of project where the return is easiest to measure.

Installable web apps

Web applications added to the phone home screen without going through the stores. They cost less, update instantly for everyone and need no approval process. They do not have access to every device feature, so we assess case by case whether they are enough.

Have an idea but not sure an app is the answer?

That is the right question. Tell us about it: if the answer is no, we will say so and point you to the alternative.

How we take an app from idea to store

  1. Analysis. Who uses the app, in what context, under what constraints. That gives us the list of features genuinely needed for the first release.
  2. Design. We draw the main screens and the user journey, so you can see how it will work before a line of code is written.
  3. Development in blocks. We ship intermediate builds you can try on your own phone, instead of leaving you waiting in the dark for months.
  4. Testing on real devices. Not only simulators: we verify on actual phones and tablets, iOS and Android, across different screen sizes.
  5. Publication. We handle store listings, Apple and Google requirements, privacy policy and developer account configuration.
  6. Maintenance. Operating systems change every year and stores raise their requirements: an app without updates stops working, and that has to be budgeted from the start.

How we choose the technology

For most business projects we use hybrid technologies (React Native, Flutter): one codebase for iOS and Android, so lower cost and updates that stay aligned. We move to native development when high graphics performance or particular system features are required.

Apps almost always rely on server-side infrastructure, which we build ourselves in PHP and Laravel — the same stack we use for websites and internal systems. That avoids the most common problem: an app and a business system built by different suppliers that do not talk to each other.

Experience with applications and systems

Since 1998 we have built custom applications and systems alongside websites: among the projects delivered are Handy Menu (digital menu for hospitality), Noleggio My Car (rental management), MIA Clubbing (events and bookings), Osimo Servizi and Karate Ancona (services and user management).

Questions we are asked most often

How much does it cost to build an app?

It depends on the number of features, the integrations with your systems and whether publication on both stores is required. After a free consultation we hand you a written quote with the tasks itemised, so you can also decide to start from a reduced version.

How long does it take?

A first release with the essential features takes less than people expect; a complete platform takes longer. We give precise timings in the quote, and we work in intermediate releases so you can see the work progressing.

Do I need an app for both iPhone and Android?

Almost always yes, and with hybrid technologies the extra cost for the second platform is contained. If the app is for internal use and the company devices are all the same type, you can start with one.

Who handles publication on the stores?

We do, including preparing the listings and dealing with Apple and Google review requests. The developer accounts stay in your name: the app is yours, not ours.

Can the app work without a connection?

Yes, and it is a frequent requirement for people working in warehouses, on site or in areas with poor coverage. Data is kept on the device and synchronised as soon as the network is available again.
